(October) 2023 - Gray Berryman
(August) 2023 - Brook Sparks
Nags Head, NC – The Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® (OBAR) and Platinum Community Partner Steven Gillis State Farm Rocket Mortgage are proud to announce REALTOR® Brook Sparks as the most recent recipient of the Association’s Good Neighbor Award.
Brook was nominated by a co-worker who had this to say: “Whether it is collecting donations for a family that lost everything in a house fire or donating her time and energy to coordinate and oversee the annual Wounded Warriors in Action (WWIA) OBX Waterfowl Hunt, this REALTOR® can always be counted on when someone is in need. Her dedication to REALTORS®, her family, and her community shows in every interaction. I am honored to call her a friend and colleague.”
The OBAR Good Neighbor Award honors a REALTOR® that goes above and beyond through their volunteer efforts to support others and make their community a better place to live. Chaired by member Jimmy Anderson, the Good Neighbor League reviews nominations and selects the worthy recipient to be honored at OBAR’s General Membership Meetings. Nominations can be made by other REALTORS® or by a member of the public.
Says Sparks, “I am truly honored to accept the Good Neighbor Award on behalf of our amazing community. What started out as a small event that made a small hunting trip possible for an amazing foundation has turned into a vehicle that unites several counties and has even crossed state lines. While I may be the "mouthpiece" for this extraordinary effort of many, every single action taken by our neighbors, coworkers and friends has changed the lives of many Purple Heart Recipients.” She continues, “To know that our community efforts have caught the attention of the Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® and other organizations in our community can only bring more much needed awareness to the selfless causes of this incredible foundation. Raising awareness for the healing of America's most sacred treasures, the Purple Heart recipients of the US Military has become a passion and huge part of my life. We must never forget the sacrifices that have been made so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we do today. I am honored to accept this award on behalf of every single citizen that participates each year in our celebration of unity and our display of appreciation to the American Hero.”
As the recipient of the Good Neighbor Award, a donation will be made on Brook’s behalf to the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation. WWIA is a public charity that devotes all its energy and resources to supporting the people wounded in combat who were awarded the Purple Heart medal. WWIA supports these phenomenal heroes by providing them with the opportunity to participate in world-class outdoor sporting activities at no cost to them.
If you know someone who deserves recognition for their volunteer efforts, please consider nominating them for the Good Neighbor Award. The award is sponsored by OBAR’s Community Partner, Steven Gillis State Farm/Rocket Mortgage. For more information on how to nominate a REALTOR® or for more information on the Good Neighbor Award program, please contact OBAR at (252) 441-4036 or visit www.outerbanksrealtors.com.
(August) 2023 - Kim Endre
Kim Endre was nominated for her true, giving spirit. She was always willing to give a helping hand for whomever, and whatever charity needed it. Kim was heavily involved in the local and state REALTOR® associations, serving on multiple committees, many of which were charitable. She was a strong advocate for Outer Banks residents and real property rights through her dedication to the REALTOR® Political Action Committee.
Kim celebrated everyone she knew with a thank you card for any occasion. During COVID, she even began putting up signs on her close-knit neighbor's houses to continue to celebrate when anyone had a birthday. Kim was also very supportive of all of the baseball players that her loving husband, Pete, coached, making sure they had rides to home and away games, and was always one of their biggest cheerleaders from the sidelines.
